Keeping You Compliant

If your company is based in CA or you have employees in CA, you must do the following to be in compliance

  1. 1

Create a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan tailored to your specific workplace.

This Plan must be reviewed and updated no less than yearly.

  2. 2

Create and maintain a Violent Incident Log.

Keep a record of violent incidents for no less than 5 years.

  3. 3

    Train your workforce.

Educate employees how to recognize and prevent violent incidents — what to do before, during, and after — and provide details about your company's specific Workplace Violence Prevention Plan.

Who's Covered and Exemptions

Applies to all California employers, with exceptions for healthcare facilities, certain service categories, compliant operations, teleworking employees not under employer control, and workplaces with fewer than 10 employees not accessible to the public.

Annual Review and Updates

Covered employers must review and update their workplace violence prevention plans annually, evaluate incidents, and maintain records of previously identified workplace violence hazards.
